MAMUN

Model United Nations is program that has been around for over fifty years in colleges and high schools around the world.  The premise is this:  Students assume the roles of ambassadors to the United Nations and are provided with an agenda comprised of items also being debated by the real United Nations in New York.  Students, acting as delegates, research the issues from the agenda and study their assigned nation's point-of-view in order to accurately represent the country.

Upon arriving at a Model United Nations conference, delegates will meet in committee sessions to debate the issues from the agenda, draft resolutions, and ultimately arrive at the best solution the committee can devise.  During a conference, delegates are challenged to persuade, influence, compromise, and ultimately make peace with friends and strangers while working within a structured process of debate.

Advisors...

Advisors are the lifeblood of any Model United Nations.  They provide the transition from year to year, and the guidance many delegates need in getting ready for, and performing well at MAMUN.  As such, the staff of MAMUN is dedicated to assisting our advisors in preparing their delegates, and in providing professional and courteous service once MAMUN begins.  We will cooperate fully in whatever discipline and chaperoning policies you establish, if they are at least as strict as our own Code of Conduct.

We encourage frequent communications both before the conference and once we arrive at the hotel.  We will assist in your hotel check-in and check-out, and will assist you in any dealings with the hotel during your stay.  We reward your participation by paying for your lunch on Friday and we look forward to sharing ideas with you in advisor meetings held throughout the conference.

We do not view the time we spend together at MAMUN as a glorified baby-sitting experience.  We are eager to learn your views on global education, both theory and practice, and we aim to enrich your program with speakers and other resources.

In short, we know how important advisors are to our program.  Like a business trying to succeed in a highly competitive field, we pledge to treat you like our best customer.  The comfort and success of you and your delegates is our most important concern.  If any staff member fails to live up to this pledge, we want to know.
